The Oyo State Commissioner of Information dubiously or erroneously listed the Saki-Ogboro-Igboho road as a completed project. In response to Dr. Lasisi Olagunju's comment, the commissioner, Prince Dotun Oyelade, claimed that within the last five years, Governor Seyi Makinde constructed roads totaling 150km, allowing travel from Ibadan to Ogbomosoland without touching a federal road.
Prince Dotun Oyelade specifically said: "As a matter of fact, " you can now ply the Ibadan-Iseyin road and from Iseyin to Ogbomosoland, a distance of 150km without stepping on a federal road; all constructed by Gov. Seyi Makinde within the last five years”.
He compared this accomplishment with Lagos State's, highlighting Oyo's superior performance despite its lower IGR (60 billion for Lagos vs 4 billion for Oyo, monthly). He further mentioned that Lagos state was able to commission only a 177.93km road project in the last five years while its Oyo State counterparts with over 100,000 Civil servants, 28,454 square kilometers of landmass, and a population of about 8 million, have CONSTRUCTED 275km road project in the same number of years.
He further listed the roads that make up the completed 275km which are;
Iseyin_Fapote_Ogbomoso road (76.67km),
Moniya_Ijaye_Iseyin road (65.0km)
Ido_Eruwa road (48km)
Saki_Ogboro_Igboho road (45.3km);
Oyo_Iseyin road (34.85km) and others.
These would have been impressive if they were correct. There are serious concerns and questions about the accuracy of the information provided. For example, the Saki -Ogboro-Igboho road is far from being a completed project, in fact, is it more or less an abandoned/ unfinished project.
Based on this, the following questions demand answers from the Oyo State government particularly the Hon commissioner for information.
1. Did Prince Dotun Oyelade fail to fact-check Oyo State's projects before disseminating information?
2. Was this misinformation intentional for political gain?
3. Was it made in error or it was dubious?
4. Does it mean the contractors have delivered the project as a completed one?
5. Did the government accept the contractors' completion without verification?
6. Is the government still aware that the expected date of completion of the project is May 2022? Has promised by the governor himself.
These questions demand sincere answers. It is essential to note that even the supposedly “completed” sections of the road are substandard and already affected by erosion. We urge Governor Seyi Makinde, through his Commissioner for Works, to prioritize the completion of this crucial project.
